Move your data to QNAP
Once you have your data out of the big services and cleaned up, it needs to live somewhere you control. This guide covers moving your archive to QNAP.
Step by step
-
Create a shared folder
In QTS, open Control Panel, then Privilege, then Shared Folders, and create a folder for your archive with read and write access.
-
Connect from your computer
Enable SMB in Control Panel, then Network and File Services. Map the share on Windows, or use smb://your-nas/sharename on macOS.
-
Copy the cleaned library in
Write your organized Year and Month folders into the shared folder.
-
Index it with QuMagie
Install QuMagie and add the folder as a source. It builds a photo timeline and can group by people and places on the NAS itself.
-
Add a backup job
Use Hybrid Backup Sync to copy the archive to an external drive or a second location.
Worth knowing
Keep the plain folder structure. QuMagie indexes it without changing your files, so the archive stays readable even if you stop using QNAP.
